Synthesizer V Studio Basic + SOLARIA Lite

Overview

This is a Vocaloid alternative software that is compatible with Mac, Windows, and Linux. Although it's priced lower than Vocaloid, it maintains satisfactory performance. I came across several walkthrough videos on YouTube that intrigued me. Motivated by these, I decided to give it a shot when the trial version was made available. The only drawback I've found so far is that it struggles with Korean lyrics.

Synthesizer V Studio Basic (Sequencer)

The software, known as "Basic," provides a complimentary trial for those interested. Furthermore, there's an upgraded, paid version named "Pro" available for purchase. More information and download options can be found at the following link:

SOLARIA Lite (VoicePack)

The voice pack for this software is priced at approximately $90. Additionally, there's a free trial option named "Solaris Light" for users interested in sampling the features before purchasing.

Installation

After installing the Synthesizer V Studio Basic, the next step involves installing the Solaris Voice Database. To do this, you can either double-click on the Solaris voice file (with the .svpk extension) or simply drag and drop it into the Synthesizer V Studio.

Testing

I casually added a vocal melody to my old track, "Burning Brain," which I consider a part of my musical dark history. To experiment further, I also inserted random English lyrics that don't necessarily carry any specific meaning.

Summary & Assessment

Impressions:

It's impressive that such a quality software is available for free. The scope of its capabilities is quite surprising.

Weaknesses:

The software appears to excel in choir, ballad, pop, and R&B vocal styles. The free version, however, comes with limitations in terms of functionality, and it requires manual synchronization between the song and the vocals. One major drawback is its inability to accurately pronounce Korean lyrics - Vocaloid 5 outperforms Synthesizer V Studio in this aspect.

Strengths:

Apart from the aforementioned weaknesses, the software excels in all other areas, making it a great choice overall.
